Back to School

Well it's back to school for me now. I moved into my house about two weeks ago after a wonderful reunion with Jilian (yep, we're back together now) so that's nice. My house is pink, and I have a nice sized room with wireless internet. My house-mates are all really cool and I've worked or hung out with them prior to living with them, so it's not a "complete stranger" setup like it was this past summer.

Starting classes has definately been a big shock though. The work load here is so much more intensive than it was back in Galway, but it's also easier to get down to it and study. I've already spent alot of time in the library, taking advantage of laptop rentals and reading lots. I have to write lots of papers this semester, but they're all on subjects I enjoy greatly so I'm pretty excited to get started on those. For one paper I'm going to be looking at the role of the American Media in the Vietnam War and its effects on the public perceptions of the war. It will also tie into my topic for my oral examination next semester, which will be to compare three geographical areas and similar historical situations, so I'm going to also look at the media involvement in the Russo-Japanese (or Japanese side of WWII, not sure yet), and the British media during the Boer War.

I start working back at the Y tomorrow morning for a ltitle part-time job. I'm a little stressed about the financial implications of this coming semester. I managed to do well for myself this summer and have everything paid for, but next semester will be the kicker. Then there's the small matter of applying for graduate schools...*sigh*...work is never done ;-).

A few important dates. On September 24th my band the Red Scare will be playing at the Reid Campus Center for a NO benefit concert. Feel free to check it out, once I get the time I'll let you know

Oh, and my 22nd birthday is September 20th. Should be fun, I'll be sure to hit the bar after my 7-10p.m. seminar. Exciting.

Hope all is well, and keep the comments coming if you're still checking this sucker out.

Cheers,

-Nate
